… GREAT american pie

Posted Monday, June 8th, 2009 at 1:25 pm

… the contest! yesh, all you cool peoplz, help us out!

myLisa has decided she wants to kick some pastry booty and dive into the scary and daunting underworld of baking goodness professionally! she’s a helluva baking-fool when it comes to pies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, candies, breads, and even sugar free diabetes-friendly deserts! lots of options for her future clientelé to choose from!

pie

what better way to grow a business while growing-fattening up everyone around you, eh? she’s very excited about this opportunity, and is beginning to develop a local following (cookie-cult?) that is likely to soon help network for her as well.  what she needs from all of you, though, is even better! because it’s a contest where you might just win bragging rights, AND a specially delivered pile of NOM NOMMY baked goods as a thank you!

NAME LISA’S BAKED GOODS COMPANY! For the next 2 weeks, we’ll be running a contest and asking all of you to help name myLisa’s new company! the rules are simple:  leave a comment with an idea for her company’s name! (duh) please keep it PG, this is a real company we’re planning on developing here! All ideas are game, and she’ll entertain any concepts such as acronyms, abbreviations, fun and witty word twists, etc! the only real caveat being that you need to be nice and understand that there may not be a winner at the end of this contest, it’s HER choice!! if the dust clears and no one stands out and is deemed “the one,” please be okay with that. (if that were to happen, maybe we’ll have some honorable mentions!!! enter as many comments during the 2 weeks as you need to. who knows where inspiration hits, eh? just please respect other companies that already exist. don’t plagiarize names already in existance, okay?

if a winner is chosen, no matter where you live in the US, we’ll contact you and get your important info in order to send you your prize! baked goods! NOM NOM NOM!

now, go out and tell all of your friends to enter this too! who knows, if they win, you may get to share in their treats… if they are willing!

let the NAME GAME BEGIN!

Here it goes…wacky as the reasons are:

    Nohm Nohm Bakery.

It is a play on the “nom nom” that Brian uses to describe Lisa’s baking.

The “h” denotes success and wealth.

It contains the word “ohm” twice. OHM (Sanskrit) has many meanings, the most well known being: Peace, Divine, God.

Numeroligically speaking, the name is a 9. This can indicate the highest level of change, The Humanitarian, Religious, Charitable, Philanthropic, Duty, Calling, Mission, Obligations, Hardship, The Higher Self, Spirit Guides, Mysticism, Faith, Angel on Earth, Faith in Mankind, Optimist, Suffering, Self-sacrifice, Karma, Enlightenment, Divine Wisdom.

Heck…your cookies could bring about world peace!

    Cheers!
    Angela

    Hey there,

Congrats on taking the leap into a baking business! I would love to help a fellow baker as baking is also my passion! That is how I became known as thecookiequeen! So I can’t offer you that name but would like to try and come up with some ideas for you! You need 2 names! One to just call yourself like mine, thecookiequeen(sorry please don’t use that one:)) and then your business name. Maybe you already have a “personal” name. Things like: The Baking Diva(this could also be your business name!)

Tell me a little bit more of what type of baking business you want to do. What is the focus? What do you want it to become? For example:

Will it be a wholesale business?
Will it be a retail shope?
Will it be a word of mouth sort of thing?
Will it be an event business like selling at markets and fairs and events?
    Where will it be located?

Do you want to focus on cakes or breads or pastries yet offer all things you mentioned or ?

Give some details of your focus and that will help me to come up with names.

Also, if you have any questions or want to chat baking for inspiration just email me, I always have some fun ideas to share:)

Here are some ideas w/o knowing your primary baking plan:

    Again, The Baking Diva

Emerald City Baking Co. (this could be taken, not sure)

    Created By Lisa

    Pie Anyone (for pie focus)

    To Die For Desserts

Give me more details I’ll come up with more names!

Firstly let me say THANK YOU to everyone who has participated so far!!! Some great names for me to mull over.

    Sherrie,

I would love my main focus to be on pies. But realistically I think that cakes will dominate cause they are easier to ship.

I would like this to start out small I want to open a website to sell online. I bake it and ship it.
I plan to talk to local business owners like coffee shops and cafe’s and see if they would like to buy my pies to sell.
I think that doing fairs, trade shows and events would be an excellent way to gain prospective clients so I do hope to do that at some point to.
Currently the business will be run out of our home.

    Gaby,

I am an equal opportunity baker. I want to sell to everyone.

I have not yet baked a pie for anyone with special dietary needs. But I would like to. I have some experimenting to do (cause it needs to taste YUMMEH) but would like to offer diabetic friendly deserts as well as Gluten free. And I want to do further research to see if there are any other specialty areas that I can incorporate into the goodness.

    Idea from Afghanistan, so forgive me if it’s a bit off;

When I think of treats, I think of being a kid. So whatever it is, maybe it could have something to do with childhood.

But the logo should be a caricature of “Little Lisa” (with glasses, no less) in a dress making mud pies or something to that effect. Maybe retro style like the Coppertone add with the little girl and the puppy.
Just not to be confused with Little Debby’s.

I like Jody’s ‘bake my day’, but that’s not very competitive of me, is it? I think Lisa is the perfect name to go with a baking company, but then if you keep a name out of it, it lets a community own it a little more. Think ‘Sweet life’ vs. ‘Sherri’s pies’. … Wait… do you guys even know about sweet life? Huh. If not, something should be done to change that. It’s probably also really important that you go watch Eddie Izzards Lego rendition of Cake or Death on you tube… I’ll go get the site… here it is… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZVjKlBCvhg
